PMU Lip Blushing Aftercare

Lip Blushing Aftercare

Saltbox Aesthetics | Dallas, Texas
Performed by Casandra Brown

Proper aftercare is essential for pigment retention, comfort, and predictable healing.

What to Expect

For the first several days, your lips will go through normal healing changes. You may notice:

  • Swelling or tenderness
  • Redness or mild bruising
  • Dryness, flaking, or itching

The color will appear brighter and darker at first. As healing occurs, the lips will lighten and soften.

Lips may lose up to 50–70% of the initial pigment before the final color develops.

Swelling can temporarily affect lip shape. The true result is not visible until fully healed at 4 weeks.

  • Ibuprofen or Advil may be used after the procedure if needed for discomfort.
  • Some clients find an oral antihistamine helpful for swelling.

Healing Timeline

Days 1–3: Lips feel tight and appear bright

Days 3–7: Peeling or flaking may occur

Days 7–14: Lips may look lighter or darker than expected

Weeks 2–4: Color gradually returns and softens

If needed, a perfecting touch-up is performed 4–12 weeks after the initial treatment once the skin has fully healed. Please contact Casandra Brown directly to schedule this appointment.

Critical Healing Rules

  • Do NOT pick, rub, or peel the lips
  • Allow all flaking to come off naturally
  • Picking can cause pigment loss, uneven healing, or scarring

Daily Care (First 5–7 Days)

  • Wash hands before touching the lips
  • Apply the provided aftercare balm frequently to keep lips lightly moisturized
  • If lips get wet, gently pat dry with a clean tissue
  • Use a straw for drinks for the first 3 days
  • Eat carefully and avoid spicy, salty, or messy foods
  • Remain hydrated

Avoid During Healing

For 7 Days:

  • Sweating or strenuous workouts
  • Swimming, hot tubs, or saunas
  • Direct sun exposure

For 14 Days:

  • Lipstick or lip makeup
  • Facial treatments, chemical peels, or lip fillers

Do not apply retinol, acids (AHA/BHA/glycolic), or active skincare products to the lip area during healing, as this can fade pigment.

Long-Term Care

Lip blushing is a soft cosmetic tattoo designed to fade naturally. It is not a lifetime tattoo.

Most clients benefit from:

  • An initial touch-up at 4–12 weeks
  • Maintenance appointments every 12–24 months

Always inform medical providers (MRI, lasers, or chemical peels) that you have cosmetic lip pigmentation.

Normal vs. When to Call

Normal Healing Includes:

  • Dryness or tightness
  • Patchy or uneven color during healing
  • Temporary fading
  • Mild swelling for 24–72 hours

Contact Your Artist If You Experience:

  • Spreading redness
  • Increasing warmth
  • Pus or drainage
  • Fever
  • Worsening swelling after 72 hours
  • Severe pain that is not improving
