Pre & Post Care: Kybella
Kybella Pre & Post-Care Instructions – Saltbox Aesthetics, Dallas, TX
At Saltbox Aesthetics, we offer Kybella to help reduce submental fullness (commonly known as a double chin) for a more defined, contoured jawline. To ensure the best results and smoothest recovery, please review the following pre- and post-care instructions.
Pre-Care Instructions
- Avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E for 24–48 hours prior to treatment, as these can increase the risk of bruising.
- Arrive with clean, moisturized skin. Wear SPF. Avoid wearing makeup (including mascara) to your appointment.
- Notify your provider if you have had recent cosmetic treatments or medical changes.
Post-Care Instructions
For the first 48 hours:
- Avoid exercise, saunas, hot tubs, or heat exposure.
- Apply ice if desired to help with swelling and discomfort—do not apply ice directly to the skin (use a barrier such as a clean cloth or paper towel).
- Keep the area clean and avoid massaging or manipulating the treated area.
What to Expect
Kybella works gradually, and swelling is a normal part of the healing process and plays a role in skin tightening/retraction. Most clients find swelling to be most noticeable after their first treatment. Here’s a general timeline:
- Weeks 1–2: Swelling is most pronounced; people who know you will notice.
- Weeks 2–4: Swelling continues to improve; typically, only you will notice changes.
- Weeks 4+: The area refines and results become more visible.
Expectations
- Multiple treatments are often needed to achieve optimal results (average is 2–6 sessions).
- Itching, swelling, tenderness, bruising, and numbness under the chin are common and expected.
- Firm areas that can be felt but not seen for up to 6 months.
- Tightness and a fluid or jelly-like consistency for the first two weeks.
- Final results are typically visible about 8–12 weeks after treatment.
- Once desired results are achieved, no further treatments are usually necessary, as fat cells are permanently destroyed.
